چکیده

The existence of unguided TM and TE Gaussian beams is derived in a simple way from the wave equation for the vector potential, and the field configurations are discussed. We point out the possibility of a new type of free-electron laser.

TE and TM beam decomposition of time-harmonic electromagnetic waves.

The present contribution is concerned with applying beam-type expansion to planar aperture time-harmonic electromagnetic field distribution in which the propagating elements, the electromagnetic beam-type wave objects, are decomposed into transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) field constituents. This procedure is essential for applying Maxwell's boundary conditions for solving d...

Clifford Algebra and Dirac equation for TE, TM in waveguide

Following Hestenes and others we explore the possibility that the electron is a (sort of) bound electromagnetic wave. To do this a waveguide analogy is considered. The E, H field components in waveguide satisfy the second order Klein Gordon equation. The question is if a (first order) Dirac equation is involved. Making use of Clifford Algebra, by first it is shown that a spinor ψ satisfying Dir...

Vector Helmholtz-Gauss and vector Laplace-Gauss beams.

We demonstrate the existence of vector Helmholtz-Gauss (vHzG) and vector Laplace-Gauss beams that constitute two general families of localized vector beam solutions of the Maxwell equations in the paraxial approximation. The electromagnetic components are determined starting from the scalar solutions of the two-dimensional Helmholtz and Laplace equations, respectively. Special cases of the vHzG...

Negative propagation effect in nonparaxial Airy beams.

Negative propagation is an unusual effect concerning the local sign change in the Poynting vector components of an optical beam under free propagation. We report this effect for finite-energy Airy beams in a subwavelength nonparaxial regime. This effect is due to a coupling process between propagating and evanescent plane waves forming the beam in the spectral domain and it is demonstrated for ...

Probability Distributions of Random Electromagnetic Fields in the Presence of a Semi-Infinite Isotropic Medium

Using a TE/TM decomposition for an angular plane-wave spectrum of free random electromagnetic waves and matched boundary conditions, we derive the probability density function for the energy density of the vector electric field in the presence of a semi-infinite isotropic medium. The theoretical analysis is illustrated with calculations and results for good electric conductors and for a lossles...
